The Arizona State Legislature recently passed HB 2720, which provides greater flexibility in the development of ADUs

This bill requires cities, including Tucson, to adopt regulations allowing ADUs on single-family home lots by January 1, 2025.

Although Tucson’s Mayor and Council amended local codes to permit ADUs in December 2021, new state legislation necessitates further changes. On June 18, 2022, the City of Tucson Mayor and Council directed staff to begin amending city codes to comply with the new state legislation on municipal zoning.
