Summit County homeowners seeking to build an accessory dwelling unit, also known as granny flats or ADUs, can now use free stock plans offered by the county government.
Officials unveiled four different permit-ready, pre-approved plans earlier this month aimed at saving residents the time and cost of working with an architect to design an ADU property. Each plan is customizable to allow for variations in exterior materials. The plans are only for use in unincorporated Summit County.
The plans are for one- and two-bedroom units, two with a garage and two without. The units range in size from 550-square-feet to 1,000-square-feet.
The county will initially distribute 20 sets of each plan, after which point more can be requested, according to Housing Director Jason Dietz.
The stock plans are part of a multi-pronged approach by the county to make it easier for residents to develop ADUs, which are required to have deed restrictions aimed at housing longterm, working or retired county residents.
